State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic (SNC)
State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic (SNC) is a government/public institution operating on the basis of the state/government budget contribution and own income, however, it is not primarily a profit making institution. It was established by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic. SNC is an expert institution focused on actions for nature and landscape conservation in accordance with the provisions of the Act. No. 543/2002 C.L. on Nature and Landscape Conservation as amended by later regulations.
SNC coordinates technical implementation of NATURA 2000 network in Slovakia. Scope of activities of the SNC covers the following: landscape and species conservation, protection of woody vegetation on non-forest land, environmental education, monitoring and maintaining relevant information systems. Specific activities relevant to aforementioned fields include: practical nature conservation, development of draft strategies, concepts, programmes and formulating/designing nature conservation measures, methodologies, development of background documents for law making activities, formulating of technical standpoints and background documents for decision-making activities, development of projects for new designations or amendments of protected areas, research and monitoring of protected areas and species, information centres, educational trails and sites, international co-operation in the field of nature/biodiversity conservation, publishing. SNC has broad experience with implementation of LIFE projects as well as other larger international projects funded by different mechanisms.
